| Three of the water companies (Thames, Southern and Anglian) have today announced that they are lifting their temporary restrictions as of midnight tonight. This equates to about 17 million of the 20 million consumers under restrictions. For your reference, here are the press releases being used by of all the TUB affected companies today:: | ||

| Water UK will put up a web statement once the bans actually lift but it will complement the picture Water UK gave last week to welcome the recent Environment Agency Drought Prospects report http://www.water.org.uk/home/news/press-releases/drought-prospects-2012 | ||
| Seven water companies will implement Temporary Restrictions (‘hosepipe bans’) from 5th April this year and no doubt other companies will follow suit in the forthcoming months. | ||
| Whilst recognising the severity of the drought situation, the SGD feels that this has the potential to devastate the horticultural industry. We represent you and the interests of your business and so we have joined forces with BALI, APL, HTA, TGA and RHS in composing a joint letter of response to the water companies and government. | ||
| At the moment the dispensations from the ban are varied and random across the water companies, but many are allowing professional car washing and window cleaning to continue, whilst banning the watering of newly planted gardens & turf by hosepipe. | ||
| On your behalf, we are asking for a 28 day reprieve for newly planted gardens and turf, to allow for watering in until establishment. | ||
| To demonstrate our ongoing commitment to responsible water usage, we have accepted and agreed to disseminate to our members and to clients the ‘Water Usage Code of Conduct for Landscape Companies’. | ||
| It is early days, but this issue will affect you and so we urge you to use the pro-forma letter to lobby your local water company and local member of parliament. | ||
| Inability to or difficulty with watering their new gardens is a difficult message for you to bring to your existing or new clients, so we will arm you with as much information as we can to give them suggestions for water conservation and responsible usage. | ||
| This is going to be a developing situation over the summer months, so keep in touch with the SGD website and please contact me directly with your personal views and experiences. (We and the other organisations will be gathering data on the impact of the bans on our industry). | ||
| Yours, Juliet Sargeant Vice Chair info@julietdesigns.co.uk |
||
| The water company responses to the crisis are currently rather disjointed and we anticipate that they will come into line more in the next few days. | ||
| The situation is changing daily, so please contact your local company for the most up-to-date information. Please see below for further information on effected water companies, advice & to send a letter to your supplier & MP. | ||
