York Photo Walk

Date: Friday 8th November 2024

Time: 10.15 for a 10.30am start, the photo walk will last 2 hours finishing at 12.30pm

There are a number of cake and coffee shops on College Street and around the corner if you want to grab a coffee to walk with.

(if the weather is really bad it will run the following week on Thursday 14th November)

Location: Meet on College Green, College Street, opposite St William’s College, York YO1 7JF

Cost: £25 per person

York Photo walks are about learning and developing your photography knowledge, whilst exploring York’s rich history, people, nature and architecture. The aim is to inspire you to stretch your creative legs when you are out and about with your camera.

We will explore how to compose a better shot, how to use the best lighting and the best angles of view, this will be tailored to apply techniques used in photographing nature, plants and more landscape so it will help you all in the future when photographing the before and after shots of jobs you have completed.

Suitable For: Whether you want to just learn the basics, or improve your photography skills the walk will have top tips for all abilities. You can bring any camera whether it is a DSLR, point and shoot camera or mobile phone.

Learn how to see creatively, and encouraging you to see the world with an artistic eye. 

Route: We will start at St. Williams College Green before moving around to the Treasurer’s House garden and then make our way to the Museum Gardens and then Edible Garden and back of the Art Gallery.  Lots of opportunities to photograph and to capture all kinds of close ups, how to look at the subjects, lighting techniques, and composition.

York Photo Walks are run by Paula Duck who has over 20 years of photography experience, including teaching photography to adults and children.

What to bring:

  • Please wear suitable outdoor clothing (depending on the weather).
  • Please bring your camera or mobile phone.

Travel

The nearest car park is Monk Bar Car Park, St John Street (just off Lord Mayor’s Walk) YO31 7QR. Alternatively there are Park and Ride options or it is about a 15 minute walk from the train station
