Multi award winning landscaper, expert witness. lecturer and TV expert Gareth Wilson is back to deliver his second CPD day on construction detailing in Scotland. This time focusing on Steps, walls and levels, with sustainable build practices. The event is designed to help designers correctly specify these elements of the garden build and provide knowledge and skills to the designer to be able to monitor the build of your gardens, so your gardens are built as designed.
The day will look at the challenges of working with levels in gardens and the best practices in building a garden on different levels that is both safe and durable.
For example the day will:
- Detail walling and how to specify walls from selecting the appropriate materials to the construction details of free standing walls and retaining wall.
- Critique the different materials for building steps; treads and risers and the construction detailing required to build different types of steps.
- Review materials for retaining edges and the pros and cons of the different options.
- Highlight issues that can arise when dealing with level changes in a garden and how best to address these issues, such as safe working heights, safety detailing (barriers and handrails), when to involve construction engineers and how to manage water on site.
The day will also take a look at sustainable build practices and how to incorporate this into our design practices.
