Winners 2016

Tommaso del Buono MSGD and Dan Lobb MSGD have taken the two most prestigious awards at the Society of Garden Designers’ fifth annual awards ceremony, receiving the Grand Award and Judges' Awards respectively in front of an audience of almost 400 guests. The accolades were presented at a ceremony at The Landmark Hotel in London where 21 awards were announced including recognition for community garden projects, international schemes, excellence in public and commercial outdoor space and the SGD lifetime achievement award. There was also a special award for SGD Fellow John Brookes MBE FSGD

Awarded by the Council of the Society of Garden Designers.

The SGD Council said: “Christopher Bradley-Hole FSGD has been at the cutting edge of the garden design industry since the mid 1990’s.  His contemporary RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winning gardens of 1997, 2000 and 2001 lead the direction of garden design into a  new era and inspired us all. His work has raised the profile of the garden design profession and the importance of garden design in the planning of new buildings and urban spaces. We are delighted to be able to honour him with this Award."

What the judges said: “The clever planting in this garden is both bold and romantic, with a colour palate that works with the stone of the house, and the rolling hills of Somerset. The strong rhythm and movement in the borders adds drama and excitement. The plants are used to create height, levels and screens, revealing and hiding the wonderful views."

The People’s Choice Award is run in conjunction with the SGD Awards media partner Homes & Gardens magazine.  Clifton Courtyard Garden was designed by Karena Batstone MSGD and was voted favourite garden among 17 shortlisted gardens in a public vote by SGD members, Homes & Garden readers and the general public.
